At Amboseli Trails, our operations are guided by a deep commitment to preserving the magnificent Kilimanjaro and Amboseli ecosystem we call home.  Our integrated approach ensures that every aspect of our operation, from the energy we use to the people we work with, contributes to a sustainable future for this unique landscape, its people, and its wildlife.

SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT

Your safari with Amboseli Trails directly contributes to the cycle of sustainability. Together with our guests, staff, and community partners, we are building a model for responsible tourism that ensures  Africa remains vibrant for generations to come.

Our Pillars of Sustainability

Environmental Stewardship

We are dedicated to minimizing our ecological footprint through tangible, technology-driven actions.

  • Renewable Energy: Our accommodation is primarily powered by solar panels, drastically reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and ensuring zero emissions. This silent, clean energy source helps maintain the natural soundscape and air quality of the savannah.

  • Waste Management: We implement a rigorous recycling program and transform all organic waste from our kitchen into nutrient-rich compost. This compost is used in our kitchen gardens, creating a closed-loop system that reduces landfill waste and enriches our soil.

  • Water and Habitat: We employ water-saving measures and support the restoration of degraded lands within the ecosystem through techniques like water bunds, which capture rainwater and aid in regreening the landscape .

Community Partnership

We believe that conservation is inseparable from community well-being.

  • Local Employment & Training: We prioritize hiring from neighboring communities for all positions, including guides for hiking and motorbike safaris, housekeeping, and management roles. We provide continuous skills training, creating meaningful source of living .

  • Sourcing Locally: Our kitchen proudly sources fresh produce and fruits from local farmers. This not only guarantees fresh, authentic flavors for our guests but also supports the regional agricultural economy and reduces the carbon footprint of our supply chain.

  • Community Support: A portion of our revenue is directed towards supporting local community projects, such as education and clean energy initiatives, fostering long-term resilience.

Education & Empowerment

We strive to be a hub for learning, inspiring both our guests and local community to become active guardians of the environment.

  • Citizen Science Programs: We invite our guests to participate in meaningful data collection. This may include wildlife questions, bird counts, or weather tracking, contributing to larger conservation research projects conducted in the Amboseli ecosystem.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Through guided activities and workshops, we educate visitors and local students about the importance of the Amboseli landscape, the challenges it faces, and the conservation successes achieved through community effort.
